Bangladesh

The Republic of Bangladesh is located in the south of Asia, a part of the Indian sub-continent. It borders are the most part to India and to a much lesser extent with Birma. The coastline of Bangladesh is located to the North of the Golf of Bengal and includes the very large delta of the river Ganges. The landarea of Bangladesh is 144,000 square kilometres is mainly flat and as comparison more than 4 time as large as the Netherlands. In fact 80% of Bangladesh's land area consists of large plains along the river deltas of the Ganges and the Brahmaputra, with the remainder consisting of woodlands and low hills. There rivers provide very fertile land, but also cause floods and periods of drynesses.

Bangladesh also proudly boasts the longest natural beach in the world at Cox's Bazar in the south of the country.

Meaning of the flag

Bangladesh introduced its flag in 1971, after the country delcared independence from Pakistan. The greenness of the flag stands for the fertility of the country. The red circle representing is the sun of independence and also the bloodletting during the fight for independence.




Climate

Bangladesh lies close at the south of the crayfish time ring and has a tropical climate.

The 3 seasons are:

October to March, mild dry winters with the wind blowing from the north,
March to June, a hot wet summer
June to October, wet and warm rainy season (monsoon).

Temperatures vary from just below 20° in January to well above 30°C in April
